Step into 19th century Jakarta during the colonial era! This is a must visit if you are in Jakarta. Batavia Cafe is the second oldest building in central Jakarta after the Fatahillah Museum. It is amazingly classical, preserved in time. This historic restaurant overlooks Taman Fatahillah square in Kota, the old Dutch quarter. Its old parlour floors, marble table tops, art deco furnishings and jazz on the hi-fi make it an essential stop for an atmospheric drink or a long lunch. It can be quiet in the evening.

At night this place turns alive on every weekend. Night markets, entertaining buskers, and street foods awaits. Note of advice, carry light and be careful of pick pockets.

Book for the seating area next to the window on upper level in advance. You'll get to see Fatahillah Square conveniently from above.
