One of the three remaining city gates of Basel. There used to be a city wall with seven gates, but except for a small part and the three remaining gates it was demolished in the 19th Century.

Das Spalentor ist das prächtigste und imposanteste der drei Stadttore, die von der grossen Stadtbefestigung von 1400 noch erhalten geblieben sind.
