But there is one roadside diner in New Mexico, in the tiny town of Capitan, that offers arguably the best one in the state. In fact, it’s won awards. But there is far more than just a delicious burger that makes this diner worthy of a pit stop. Fairly new to the New Mexico restaurant scene having opened in 2015, you'll find Oso Grill nestled along Highway 380, in a valley between the Capitan and Sacramento Mountains. You might not expect much from a tiny town like this, but if you pass through the area, you owe it to yourself to stop at this highly-rated (and for good reason!) little diner. When you step inside this adorable diner, you'll find that it is filled with natural light and delightful aromas, making you feel right at home. Visitors of the Oso Grill rave about the upbeat yet inviting atmosphere, the attentive service, and the cleanliness. So, grab a menu and a seat, and prepare for a wonderful dining experience. We’re going to cut right to the chase and let you know that the Poblano Pepper Soup with Smoked Cheddar Bread Pudding is the appetizer you’re going to want to try first. Prepare for an invigorating explosion of flavor and zest to wake up the tastebuds. Alternatively, the Fried Green Chile strips or the Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers are guest favorites. The arugula and spinach salad with champagne dressing make for a light but refreshing salad to enjoy as a second course while you prepare for the main entrée to arrive. Other salad options include the Oso Berry, the Chef, or the Steak or Chicken salads. Who doesn’t love an authentic green chile cheeseburger? If you are a green chile lover, the award-winning Green Chile Cheeseburger offered at Oso Grill is ranked one of the best in the entire state. In fact, many visitors rave that this is the best they’ve ever had, and the image really sells itself. If you aren't feeling the burger option but want the green chile, the next best thing on the menu is easily the Green Chile Chicken Enchilada. If you're lucky, and the New York strip steak happens to be offered on special while you’re visiting, this is an extremely delicious and tender steak you will absolutely love. It is drizzled in red pepper marmalade and comes with fingerling potatoes, shaved root vegetables, and fried shallots. If it happens to not be on special when you visit or if you're looking for a seafood option, the Catfish is to die for and gets rave reviews from guests. Now, Amara's homemade crackers served with fried dill Havarti, candied jalapeños, apple butter, smoked cheddar cheese, fresh grapes, and toasted pecans is a light (but yummy) menu option to consider as you wrap up the meal. But this fourth course may only be offered during special holiday occasions, such as Valentine’s Day, so be sure to call ahead and ask if this dish is going to be offered during your visit. Otherwise, the Fry Bread or Root Beer Floats offer the perfect palate cleanse to end your dining experience just right. Oso Grill is truly one of the best roadside diners in New Mexico, and the high ratings are well-earned due to their incredibly delicious food and top-quality service. But what makes them even more unique is that they have an adorable gift shop full of souvenirs for all ages that you won’t want to miss.
