A short but steep walk up to the top of the White horse, where there is also an iron age fort to walk around, and far reaching views. Parking is in the layby on the A4 near the top of the hill. About half an hour from us

The White horse is a hill figure on Cherhill Down, 3.5 miles from Calne. It dates from the late 18th Century and is the third oldest of several White Horses in England. Near the White Horse is the Lansdowne Monument. erected in 1845 by the 3rd Marquess of Landsdowne to commemorate his ancestor Sir William Petty. You can walk up to both and see also the Oldbury Castle Hillfort.

Excellent walking up the hill to the Landsdown monument. Have lunch or tea at the Divine Cafe or The White Horse in Compton Bassett.

This historical attraction is just around the corner from our property and is a great day of walking. The giant horse is carved into the side of the hill and also has a monument at the top. It is a steep climb, with nothing but open fields so pack your walking boots and a water bottle 🙂

20 minutes drive from the Garden Annex, take a scenic walk along the ridge above the white horse. Choose a clear day for the best views.
