It’s a religious temple from the colonial era famous for its baroque style architecture; belongs to the Order of Mercedarians and the construction began back in 1535, but due to earthquakes it had to be rebuilt in several occasions. Inside the cloisters of the temple important pieces of art from the ‘Escuela Cusqueña’ are exhibited, as well as colonial furniture, chandeliers and other valuable objects from the time; but its greatest relic is the Custody of La Merced, a jewel that measures 4”10ft and weighs 48lb, this piece is adorned with precious stones such as gold, diamonds, rubies, emeralds and pearls.
